The Power of Protein
Is so very real. For so long I have taken protein for granted. In fact, when I started looking for ways to take my health and wellness to the next level, protein was always the go-to answer.
“It will make you feel fuller.”
“It will give you more energy.”
“It will help boost your metabolism.”
“It will help stabilize your insulin and blood sugar levels.”
All great things, but that last one? It’s the winner in my book. Especially for someone like me who is trying to control my PCOS symptoms and help balance things out. Like I mentioned in this post, I’m really focusing on my health and wellness this season and these snacks I’m about to mention, have been making this journey doable and enjoyable.
My Go-To Snacks
Fridge Snacks
Oikos Remix Yogurt in the flavor Smores – YUM with all caps. I love this yogurt, it feels like a dessert and it has 11 grams of protein at 120 calories.
:ratio Protein in the flavor Vanilla – hands down my favorite yogurt of all time. It is probably the best tasting protein yogurt on the market with 25 grams of protein at 170 calories. Dress it up with some fresh fruit for an extra yum moment.
Sargento String Cheese – So fun to eat on their own string by string or sliced up and thrown in a salad. This snack gives you 8 grams of protein at 90 calories.
Good Culture Low Fat Cottage Cheese – Believe it or not, I don’t always eat this on it’s own, I usually add a ranch packet and voila, you got yourself a protein packed ranch dressing. Or you can cottage cheese it up with some fresh fruit. Either way you get 19 grams of protein at 120 calories
Boiled Eggs – Easy to make, and they are great to store in the fridge for easy snacking throughout the week. 1 Egg gives you 6 grams of protein at about 77 calories.
Pantry Snacks
Kodiak Flapjack Power Cup in the flavor Smores – Yes, I love all things Smores. This one is a fun breakfast treat, it’s quick and easy and with a little spray of whip cream. You easily get 12 grams of protein at about 270-300 calories (depending if you use a little whip cream on top).
Good and Gather Chunk Light Tuna in Water – I know, tuna is one of those things that you either love or hate, and this one right here is LOVE at first bite. And It’s so good. You get 19 grams of protein at only 80 calories, so go ahead and add a little mayo, lemon juice and some veggies.
Kodiak Power Cup Muffin in the flavor Chocolate Chip – This hits the spot on those mornings when I want a muffin to go with my coffee. It delivers with 12 grams of protein at 270 calories.
Are they worth it?
I always get asked if protein snack are worth it. And here’s the deal, no one knows what best for you, like you do. Each of us have different goals.
My goal is to hit a certain level of protein daily, but I also want to enjoy the foods I eat. So instead of eating a chocolate chip muffin from the bakery aisle at 5 grams of protein at a whopping 370 calories, I’d rather have the Kodiak power cup. This way I get twice as much protein and I save 100 calories but still get that muffin taste I crave.
It’s all in the way you want to look at it.
Either way, I hope you get to try some of these out, or if you have, which are your favorite ones? Don’t see your favorites on the list? Send them my way via instagram or leave a comment below – maybe I just haven’t tried them yet, and I’d love to check them out.
Until next time…
With love,
Cindy
