February started with a soft and slow morning. Light leaked through my window, birds chirped, and my day began the way it always does—making my bed, opening the curtains, and heading to the kitchen, where a steaming cup of coffee made by the best husband in the world was waiting for me.
The start of February is special because it’s my best friend’s birthday. When you’re 3,600 miles away, nostalgia hits differently. I dedicated a journal page to her, writing about all the amazing things I know are coming her way this year. I can feel them. Every Sunday, we share a “photo buffet” of our week, a ritual that makes the distance feel a little smaller.
On the 2nd, my brother turned 50, and my heart ached that I couldn’t be there for such a milestone. Birthdays with him are some of my favorite celebrations—he just gets me.
As the days progressed, I got lost in puzzles, poured my heart into work, and dealt with a few minor setbacks. I made time for my favorite things, like gardening and hanging out with friends and their kids (whom I absolutely adore). Visiting my friend’s farm and spending time with the animals always feels like a treat. I don’t think they realize just how much it means to us that they’ve welcomed us with open arms.

Mid-month, my longtime online friend and incredibly talented artist, Katie, visited me on the island. My little trio headed to the west side early, hoping to play mermaids before picking her up—but the waves were wild. Instead, we had a picnic and watched the ocean roar.
Once Katie arrived, we had the best time playing tour guide. Seeing someone experience the island for the first time reminds me how incredibly lucky I am to live here. We indulged in so many treats, but my favorite? The cheese and herb focaccia bread from the Naalehu Market. Oh. My. Goodness. Love at first bite.

One of my favorite moments with Katie was sitting at the black sand beach, listening to the waves, and spending hours drawing and painting. Her art is breathtaking, and before she left, she gifted me the most gorgeous watercolor painting of Pele. I still can’t believe I have the original! If you haven’t checked out her work, you need to.

Saying goodbye was hard, but she left me feeling so inspired to create again. It’s been a minute since I’ve made time for creative play (outside of my junk journal, which I’m obsessed with). This month, I had so much fun filling out my gratitude entries and tracking my books of the month. My reading goal was eight, and we barely made it—but you can check out my book reviews here!

Mom duties were in full bloom this month with Girl Scout cookie season kicking off. We set a big goal, and watching my daughter step out of her shell and make friends has been incredible. We have a few booths left in March, and we’re crossing our fingers to hit our target! If you feel inclined to order cookies, here’s her link.

February also gave me a chance to dust off my photography skills at my friend’s baby shower. I had so much fun capturing the day so she could be fully present and enjoy the moment.

Looking back, February felt like a gentle nudge back to the things I love—art, photography, and connection. It reminded me to make space for creativity and the simple joys of everyday life. Here’s to carrying that energy into March. 💛
